C Wells might not have tracks on your phone yet, but he’s trying to reserve some space in the future. This young emcee reps Lynn, MA an area just outside of Boston; its nicknamed the “City of Sin,” and the fact that Boston gangster films Black Mass and The Departed were both filmed there, should give you an idea of the burg. Wells is set to be the star that sheds light on this vice city’s burgeoning hip-hop scene.
C Wells, dropped an 8-track mixtape of freestyles entitled Dear, Summer in July 2016, on which he murked the season’s biggest beats and got listeners anticipating his imminently approaching album Before The Tour Bus. This upcoming effort illustrates the grind that goes into a successful career; prior to stardom’s inevitable arrival. Not to mention, it is hosted by Mr. Co-Sign himself, Don Cannon. Before The Tour Bus includes features from G Herbo & Dave East and production from C-Sick.
“It was about middle of February and I’m about half way thru the project at this time and I was sitting on a song I knew had the potential to be a hit” C Wells commented to Mass Appeal. “I had already finished one verse, but I needed one more [verse]. My partner Chy told me he wanted to make a record with me and East happen and this was the perfect track. Of course I was down with it, but coming from where I’m from, things like that usually don’t pull through; but Chy reached out and Dave was down. I got Dave’s verse and ‘Off The Porch’ was born!
Matt Citron released the video for “Save My Soul,” found on his debut project Final Moments of Forever (Brooklyn Knights/Sony RAL). Directed by Shomi Patwary and shot in NYC’s Lower East Side, the aggressive visuals find Matt channeling the same ferocity heard in his lyrics.
Matt Citron explains, “I wanted to make sure I captured the aggressive urgency of the song in the video. Honestly my biggest influence for the visual was probably the main chase scene from “The Dark Knight”. I told Shomi, the director, how I wanted to bring it to life, and his team understood exactly what I was envisioning. I rarely give this much insight into my work, but I think it’s obvious that the song is unapologetically human and super in your face. I just had to crank up that feeling even more when it came time to put it into a visual form.”
From the east side of Pittsburgh, Popie shares his latest project Feelin Like Pac. The new project is inspired by the late Tupac Shakur. Social injustices from police brutality to poverty stricken living, Popie steps up to the plate to challenge these issues that constrain people. Popie’s style is unique, bringing forth a refreshing soundscape to the game.
Nash releases his latest offering “Murder” featuring Tony Yayo and U’Kno. The collaboration with Tony Yayo came about after the G-Unit legend heard the Life mixtape by U’Kno and Nash.
