In the 1st half of 2018, Wu-Tang Clan fans worldwide were hopeful that the previous sale of the one of a kind Wu-Tang album, Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, would change hands from the currently incarcerated owner Martin Shkreli to Wu-Tang affiliate Matthew “M80” Markoff who would release it freely to the public— to be appreciated by all. In light of Markoff’s 1 million dollar offer, the sale never came to fruition and Markoff like most Wu-Tang fans simply wrote off the notion of the one of a kind album and any chance at ever being able to hear it after that.
It’s a good thing that Ghostface is a man of the people! Wu-Tang Clan’s own Ghostface Killah will release his new studio album, The Lost Tapes, alongside legendary underground producer Big Ghost on 10-5-18. The collective goal was to bring fans back to the Ironman/Supreme Clientele/Cuban Linx Era sound. Both Ghost’s set out to revive that feeling, update it for 2018 and create another certified Wu-Tang Banger!
The Lost Tapes also features an All-Star Line-Up including; Snoop Dogg, E-40, Big Daddy Kane, Raekwon, Masta Killa, Cappadonna Killah Priest, Sheek Louch, Ras Kass, Michael Rappaport and more.
After announcing the new project a few weeks ago with “Saigon Velour,” Ghostface returns with “Buckingham Palace,” which features Griselda Gang’s Benny The Butcher, KXNG Crooked and 38 Spesh. “Buckingham Palace” was exclusively premiered by XXL. “Benny and the entire Griselda camp definitely got the torch right now and his style is impeccable. Spesh and G Rap just dropped an album and any emcee that can go bar for bar with G Rap has my admiration” Ghost commented to XXL. “Crooked is one of those emcees that is universally respected and one of the west coast’s elite. Put it all together and you got a marvelous feast for your ears no doubt.”
The Milwaukee marauder, Taiyamo Denku, continues powering forward campaigning his recently released LP, “No Industry Standard”. Side by side with fellow producer cohort Dcypha, the pair continue delivering nothing but high quality Hip Hop. Enter the third single from said album, “Still Waiting”, featuring highly compelling jewels shared by Griselda Records own, Benny The Butcher.
The song begins with a sick piano melody that gets split by soulful horn and vocal samples. Denku sets up the record’s concept with a short introduction that rides into the chorus that states, “no matter how things get, they still waiting for change / stages of life, sleep half of the days”. After the intital hook, Taiyamo and Benny begin assaulting the mic with brolic bars of knowledge, hoping to wake up the unknowing. “Still Waiting” is a stand out cut from “No Industry Standard” and is the second feature from the Griselda camp. The album’s lead single, “Be Who You Are”, was another super soulful clapper and featured Conway The Machine.
“No Industry Standard” has quite a few hits on it’s hands. The two aforementioned singles, “Fabulous Life” with Lil Kim, it’s title track and much more. Benny is still pumping his “A Friend Of Ours” project. A fan favorite of 2018, the project carries guest appearances by 38 Spesh, El Camino, Dark Lo, Skyzoo and others. Both albums are available to preview / purchase on Bandcamp, nice additions to add to your Hip Hop collection.
Any day can be your last day in the “Dirty Waters” as Jamal Gasol and Benny the Butcher bring that statement to life in the official music video for “It Ain’t Safe”. Produced by Quis Star, Gasol & Butcher lay their verses over the instrumental while Real D Hawks takes care of the visuals, shooting the movie like video for the song. The creativity put behind the video was well thought, showing different scenes that the artists are use to seeing while chillin’ around the local One Stop Bodega. The visual comes after the official audio was released about three months ago while Jamal Gasol has his last release, Larry Davis Era, still getting plenty of spins. Gasol decides to give fans more new content with this drop, and it is nothing short of dope. Peep the official video for “It Ain’t Safe” down below, directed by @realDHawks.
