#WordToTheWise: “Quality Over Quantity”

A lot of artists have 100 plus songs under their belt and still wonder why they haven’t got “on” yet.

So until you know that you’ve found your sound as an artist, don’t try to knock out as many songs as you can in one studio session. Find one record (at a time) that you love, and perfect it. It only takes one hit. ?

#WordToTheWise is quality over quantity!

#WordToTheWise: “Brand Yourself”

Brand yourself. Find ways to separate yourself from the rest. Have a personality that doesn’t distract from your music, but rather compliments it, and ultimately attracts more fans.

Ms. Cardi B is a prime example! People fell in love with Cardi’s unfiltered persona on TV and social media, and when people started to listen to her music, they were pleasantly surprised. Not only that, once Cardi started gaining some heavy clout, she NEVER changed — and people love her even more for that!

And what about Blac Youngsta?
His Instagram videos are beyond hilarious, and even if we don’t get what he’s talking about half the time, he makes us laugh, and we continue to go back to his Insta for more. Best believe, when he drops any posts about his music, that we’re here for that too!

#WordToTheWise is brand yourself as an ARTIST, your music and image goes hand and hand.

Byron Scott Dorris, better known by his stage name, Scotty Music is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and record producer from Joliet, Illinois, 45 miles away from Chicago.

Violence and gang activity was prevalent in the city but Scotty’s parents kept him in the church where he began playing the drums and other instruments in the choir.

Scotty comes from a musically rich background as his mother, Lisa McFarland is a singer-songwriter, his father, Timothy Dorris Sr. is a multi-talented musician, his older brother, Brandon Dorris is a vocalist and his uncle, Timothy Johnson is a vocalist and vocal coach who gave Scotty his stage name.

At age 14, Scotty met 2 brothers, Chris & Curtis Greenwood who had their own studio and he learned the basic formula for creating and mixing tracks. Curtis showed Scotty a few chords and he picked it up fast, so fast in fact in a matter of months, Scotty was playing piano for the youth choir at Shiloh M B Church. There he also received training from the late and great Tony Ray, Lazar Grey, Dion Wolfard, and Sylvester Harper.

Sylvester Harper connected Scotty to his long time and friend producer Earl Powell who eventually signed Scotty to his production company, Eptone. Scotty later signed a co-publishing deal with Warner/Chappell with Mike Lynn and Cameron Strang in 2011.

Ever since Scotty has been perfecting his craft and has worked and produced with the likes of Rick Ross, Do or Die, Syleena Johnson, Tweet and is featured on Twista’s latest single, “Paper Chaser” along with Blac Youngsta.

Scotty released an EP 2017 titled, ‘Seven’ which is available on Soundcloud and he is currently working on his debut album which is expected to release sometime this year.

Scotty’s official music video to his single, “Kilo” is nearing 240k views.

In 2017 Scotty signed a JV partnership with G7 Records through his company Scotty Music Group and wants people to know that individuality does exist and music should come the heart.
