Exclusive Interview: Meet Rising Artist D’Vo

What is your name and what city do you rep?

I go by D’Vo, and I represent Houston Texas

Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?

My latest release is The Codex: Court Vision, and my intentions are to craft positive media with God at the center.

What is unique about you and your music?

The uniqueness is the versatility from a jazz soul singer to a conscious rapper and different perspectives featured in The Codex.

What shaped your music?

I can’t say anything that particularly shaped the music, but I am a product of all music, love everyone from the mount Olympus of the Rap Gods, to the new school talented MC’s like Logic, Lamar and Cole.

When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?

I ran from it for years. I tried to do something with music when I was 17-19, but honestly I moved on, but when the man upstairs calls, you had better answer that call.

What type of music do you listen to?

I listen to everything, all mainstream music. I try to listen to Jazz instrumentals alot and recreate these in my head with a hard hitting 808, and let my mind just run away with wonder of what could be.

What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?

I’m passionate about sports, nba, football. Really passionate about cooking, and working out. Living a healthy lifestyle.

Happiness to you is…

Happiness to me is spending time with family, enjoying a nice day on the beach, preferably south beach.

What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?

I wish I was told initially to network, network, network. Initially I was so stuck in my lane that I didn’t take the time to grow with my peers around me doing the same thing. So if I could do it again, I would build a network with those individuals, because there is strength in numbers.

Tell us about your upcoming projects…

My band Global Rhythm will release a project soon. But for my newest release Volume III; we will have a release strategy in which we are promoting one song at a time on the new album, and then Volume 4 drop. I also have a screwed and chopped version of Volume II dropping on sound cloud soon, around October.

Where do we find you music / music projects?

Your can find me @nerdlifebydvo or website www.nerdlifebydvo.com has all the most current information and for business ventures, www.element11.media

Vigilante Shares New Single “Fly Away”

Most people don’t believe Vigilante when he said that he wrote “Fly Away” back in 2014. As a student at SAE, Vigilante found himself in the studio every day. This song was very special to him and at first, included no feature. After a class trip to James Brown engineer studio vigilante was faced with a tough decision. This decision was to call the song finished or continue to work on it.

The advice given by the engineer pushed Vigilante in the direction of calling it quits with the song. On the car ride back to the school Vigilante was hit with an idea of what he could do to make the song better and he added her to the song. Her name was sharita. Unfortunately, as beautiful of a voice as she had, the music status/profile didn’t match and Vigilante did not want to drop the song to deaf ears.

The song sat as a reference track for years until one day during the pandemic vigilante noticed the shift in the acting community and decided not to play with his musical talents anymore and release this single.

Dondria played a major role and her vocals are almost the exact same as sharita but with a slight twist. Dondria and Vigilante both respect each other’s artistry and have a great working partnership. After dropping Fly Away every radio station, blog site, article, magazine act… picked up the single and drove it to get over 90,000 streams on Soundcloud in one week.

Every movie and TV show approached vigilante about having the song featured and it even became the Outro to the stage play Go Back and Get God. The expectations for this single are high but both Dondria and vigilante are confident in bringing that plaque home along with a grammy.

Meet Rising Bronx Artist: Brandon Rose

What first got you into music?
When I was a kid I would listen to my older brothers music from my room, as they would have MTV and BET Jams on throughout the day. I was a huge fan of 50 Cent and Eminem growing up. Hearing the melodies from 21 Questions and the chant from Many Men were some of the first songs that really inspired me.

Who inspired you to make music? 50 Cent, Eminem
How would you describe the music that you typically create? The music that I create has a classical sound to it, similar to that of the golden era of hip-hop. My music always has a lot of energy, and I always reflect on what I’ve experienced throughout my life.

What is your creative process like?
I try to be one with the music. I first skim through an instrumental, then free styling different patterns and flows to the beat. Once I find my pattern and rhyme structure, I then write to that pattern.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?
50 Cent and Drake. Having Jadakiss as a recent feature was spectacular, and it would be great to work with other legends in the game.

If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?
Jadakiss, Nas, Jay-Z, Eminem or Drake.

What is one message you would give to your fans?
Stay tuned, more music on the way!

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
The internet allows musicians from any level of tenure to target fans all over the world.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?
“Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn”.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
Eliminating how cutthroat and money hungry everyone is. Also, not allowing just any artist to say and do as they please. There’s too much clout chasing and fake beef these days just to get press. The game needs to get back to being authentic.

What’s next for you?
I have a bunch of new singles on the way, might even put them together as an EP. Either way, I got new music coming soon.
