Nigerian R&B Artist Dan Onkar New Project “Irene”

Nigerian singer-songwriter and producer from London Dan Okar Drawing inspiration for his uniquely addictive sound from a diverse pool of artists including Luther Vandross, Usher, Lagbaja, Fela Kuti and more, Onkar’s music merges introspective writing with multi genre fused production, gifting us with the carefully packaged project ‘Irene’.

Already creating a distinctively reputable imprint across the scene, Onkar has written and produced music with a large, yet tailored, palette of musicians over the years including the likes of notable acts

BenjiFlow, Oxlade, Jords and Nosa Apollo to create the perfect sounds. Previously releasing projects ‘Lost||Outside’, ‘Unstable’ and ‘A Night Like This’, Dan Onkar returns with an irresistible body of work ‘Irene’ to add to the collection.

Following on the love story from most recent EP ‘A Night Like This’,  “Irene” is the follow on from the project which allows Dan to seamlessly continue on the journey both sonically and thematically. Laced with smooth, warm sounds crossing over catchy melodies, this project particularly paints a story on love and affirmation, fusing together elements taken from 80s pop era and South African sounds. ‘Scandalous’ and ‘Money Don’t Speak‘ lean on these references while ‘Hold Me Down’ and ‘Hand Up’  taps into Onkar’s traditional west African background exploring the Afrobeat sound, while he ties this altogether with his naturally effortless R&B nature – a style which allow his  distinct melodies and dexterous songwriting capabilities to shine through.

Best describing his music as a “melting pot of moods and alternative production”, Dan vividly walks us through his life experiences and influences, which allows us to see through the eyes of him growing up between Lagos and London. With both cities carrying big musical cultures, you can hear a blend of the cultures in the music. Speaking on the creative process behind developing the body of work, Dan Onkar explains:  “Irene is inspired by a woman’s beauty. I wanted to create a project that reflected happy love and celebration, from the lyrics to the production I want the music to make you feel a groove by yourself, with your friends or your loved ones”
