Ekelle Drops Debut Album ‘Let’s Get It’ & Official “Be Free” Music Video

Ekelle, a self-managed artist and songwriter from Toronto, ON, loves to candidly rap out her real lived experience and/or play with metaphor and simile as she sings. In creating her own genre of Hood Pop – popular music with a street edge – Ekelle doesn’t limit herself to rigid categories and more so embraces the mood, allowing for a dynamic experience where some songs are different from each other, but still represent and distinguish her from others.

After releasing two EP’s, Ekelle is celebrating a milestone with Let’s Get It, her debut full-length album. Intentionally numbered in an order that takes the listener on a journey, some of the LP’s songs are flirtatious, some provide social commentary, and some are just about bigging yourself up and having a good time.

Toronto Rising Artist Ekelle New Single “I Need That”

Ekelle is a multi-genre artist and songwriter from Toronto who rhymes about what she knows best: her real-life experience. Money, sex, drama and identity stir together to create a style that she calls Hood Pop – popular music with a street edge. Combining elements of hip hop, pop and R&B, Ekelle hopes that the honesty in her music will motivate others to share their stories too and to never give up.

New single “I Need That” is a reminder that you are that b***h, no matter what – even if we’ve all been inside for so long due to lockdowns that we don’t feel so sexy anymore. The pandemic hasn’t got any easier to deal with, and we all just need that confidence boost to keep us going. We’ll get back on the dancefloor one day.

On the brand new track, “Magic Girl,” Sia Shells collaborates with fellow Toronto multi-genre artist, Ekelle to create a mantra for self-love; a catchy affirmation you can dance to but also walk away from feeling inspired and motivated to achieve your dreams.

Toronto’s Artist Ekelle Shares New Track & Video, “Dropped”

Ekelle is a multi-genre artist and songwriter from Toronto who rhymes about what she knows best – her real life experiences. New single, “Dropped,” is based on Ekelle’s true story of her 2015 false arrest under suspicion of drug trafficking. Not wanting this sudden roadblock to stop her momentum, she pushed herself to keep putting out music anyway – it was the only way to get through juggling court appearances and a fulltime job. The depression and anxiety would really sink in whenever she was standing still, causing her to slip into some bad habits; keeping busy kept her mind off things.

When the charges were (fortunately) dropped, Ekelle felt an enormous weight lift from her shoulders. If she could get through this life-altering moment, then she could definitely handle the music industry. Ekelle took this as an opportunity to be more honest and intentional with her craft, sharing moments and stories she would have normally kept to herself in the past.
