It’s a record that features the shimmering arrangements, the sumptuousness and the ethereal melodies we associate with classic soul music. Joy Denalane Releases New Single / Video “Forever”

Motown Records’ German Queen of Soul Joy Denalane unveils her new single and video “Forever.” Listen Here via Motown Records. This is off Joy’s forthcoming deluxe edition to her soul album Let Yourself Be Loved coming on September 3rd. “The song was quite a challenge,” says Joy. “The melody and arrangement have less of my signature than many of the songs on the album. I deliberately wanted to write something that theoretically other artists could also sing. Something classic.”

From the first note, “Forever” sounds as if it had been produced in 1967 at the legendary Motown Hitsville recording studios in Detroit – and not almost fifty years later in New York and Munich. The choirs, the iconic bass, the flute sounds: every inch a classic. “Forever” is the second bonus track to be released from Joy’s deluxe edition from her soul album Let Yourself Be Loved.

Joy Denalane Releases New Soul-Stirring Single “The Show”

Motown Records’ German Queen of Soul Joy Denalane unveils her new single “The Show. Listen here.

This soulful slow-burn simmers over laidback guitar and a steady beat. It builds into a sweeping and soaring refrain backed by orchestral strings and cinematic horns. Joy’s vocal acrobatics uplift the hook as she confesses, “If my mistakes come to the surface, I’m sorry I was part of the show.

Talking about the track, she shared, “‘The Show’ is about that moment when kids realize, ‘After all, my parents are just as questionable and flawed as I am’. When children become teenagers, their parents’ hero status is quite rightly questioned. I tell my children, ‘Please forgive me, that I too am only a part of the show, a part of the system—and as such fallible’. The song aims to soften the shock of that realization for the kids and help navigate them through the complexities of life.”

Joy Denalane Honors Bill Withers In New Rendition Of “Use Me”

Motown Records’ German Queen of Soul, Joy Denalane honors Bill Withers with her rendition of his timeless record “Use Me.” Listen here and watch the video which made its Broadcast premier on BET Soul here.

“Use Me” pays homage to one of the greats of soul, Bill Withers, who passed away on this day last year. Joy Denalane has reinterpreted the song in memory of the late singer. Joy’s version of “Use Me” is a powerful tribute of respect, femininity and love to one of the most influential soul artists of all time. For Joy Denalane, “Use Me” has a special meaning:

“Bill Withers once said he saw the clouds from both sides. He was a great storyteller, poet and composer. His songs like “Ain’t No Sunshine”, “Lean On Me” or “Just The Two Of Us” became anthems that we still sing today. In memory of this great songwriter who passed away a year ago, I recorded a new version of his song “Use Me”. Bill Withers will never be forgotten!”
